The Next Big Thing!

Thanks to two very lovely people – authors K. Latham and author Kelley Harvey – I have been invited to take part in The Next Big Thing blog hop!

So, without further ado:

Ten Interview Questions for The Next Big Thing:

1. What is the working title of your book?  STARTING WITH AMBER

2. Where did the idea come from for the book? It came from chatting with my partner at the time about what things would really upset a person emotionally. We agreed the abduction of a child would be one of those things. From there, the book just started to grow.

3. What genre does your book fall under? Contemporary YA

4. Which actors would you choose to play your characters in a movie rendition? What a tough question. I suppose I’d say a younger version of the actress that played Willowin Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Lossie. As for Seth…that’s a tough one…maybe a younger Josh Harnett.

5. What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book? When sixteen year old Seth Goldman’s child star sister is abducted from their family home, the resulting media feeding frenzy throws everyone’s life out of kilter and Seth must decide whether the family secrets are worth the price of his sister’s life.

6. Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency? I’m repped by the amazing Jamie Bodnar Drowley and Marisa Corvisero of the Corvisiero Agency.

7. How long did it take you to write the first draft of your manuscript? Hmm, about four weeks for the first draft.

8. What other books would you compare this story to within your genre? Perhaps slightly outside the genre, but My Sister My Love by Joyce Carol Oates, or Forbidden by Tabitha Sazuma.

9. Who or What inspired you to write this book? The main inspiration for my book came from my then partner and good friend, Savvas. His personal circumstances regarding his own son really touched my heart and he was a great point of reference for the more emotional parts of the book.

10. What else about your book might pique the reader’s interest? Starting With Amber is a book that uses different forms of communication such as IM messages, police interview transcripts, and more. It really plays with text and the way it’s written shows just what’s on the character’s mind in lots of different ways.

Okay, so I’d like to pay it forward on the Next Big Thing. Please check these writers out:
