Effortless With You Book Blurb:

School is out and Lucy is ready for the perfect summer: lazy days at the pool, invitations to the most exclusive parties, and romantic dates with her hot new boyfriend. That is, until she lands in trouble one too many times and her parents issue the ultimate punishment: a summer job. Suddenly, the summer can’t end fast enough.

To make matters worse, the job is painting houses with Justin, the most popular, egotistical guy in school. Spending all summer with Justin might be other girls’ dreams, but definitely not Lucy’s. After all, Justin is cocky, annoying, and a jerk. So what if he’s the most beautiful jerk Lucy’s ever seen? Or that his grin makes her forget she’s mad at the world? Or that maybe, just maybe, there’s more to Justin than Lucy realizes. Only one thing is certain: it won’t be the summer she wanted, but it might be exactly the one she needs.

About Lizzy Charles

When Lizzy Charles isn’t scrambling to raise her two spunky toddlers or caring for premature and sick babies as a neonatal intensive care nurse, she’s in a quiet corner writing or snuggled up with a novel and a few squares of dark chocolate. Black tea keeps her constant and she loves guacamole. She married her high school sweet heart, a heart-melting musician, so it’s no surprise she’s fallen in love with writing contemporary YA romance novels.

Now onto the nitty gritty…the review!!

Okay, let me preface this by saying I AM NOT A ROMANCE READER.  In fact, I couldn’t be further from a romance reader if I tried.  I’m the creepy, dark writer who likes to dig into the dark side of life and see what crawls out.  So, be sure that when I say I LOVED Effortless With You, it’s not a genre bias from someone who likes things all pink and fluffy.  So, did I love it?

You can be damned sure I did!!!

Lizzy Charles creates characters so honest, real and touching that you can’t help but be swept up into the lives they lead.  And no, they are not all light, pink and fluffy.  In fact, they are filled with angst, misunderstanding and misdirected anger.  The main character Lucy isn’t just some loved up teen.  In fact, she a three-dimensional young woman who has issues of her own and is navigating them the best way she knows how.  I really connected with her character, as she’s just doing what we all do…fighting to understand life and what it really means.

I know a lot of people really swooned over Justin (and rightly so, as he’s a super antagonist), but Lucy stole the show for me.  I can officially say this is the only romance book I’ve ever read that has made me realize that there is a lot more to this genre than just sunshine and butterflies.

I take my hat off to Lizzy Charles.  Go read this book.  Whether you love romance or loathe it, this book has the potential to really get you wrapped up in its world.  I, for one, cannot wait for Lizzy next triumphant novel!
