Hi YA Bookcasers!
Happy holidays to everyone who celebrates at this time of year, and happy days to those who don’t.
I’d like to touch on something I think a lot of writers don’t do: give themselves a break. We can be so busy beating ourselves up about what we’ve not achieved that we forget to celebrate what we have achieved. And if we think we’ve achieved nothing? We’ve written. We’ve plotted. Created. But more than that…
we’ve done what we love. That’s right. We love writing. That’s why we do what we do. And I think it’s one of the most forgotten things when it comes to our craft. We can be so focused on publishing and getting into the hands of readers, we forget we adore our art for the sheer pleasure of creating it.
So, for the holidays, I’m going to just enjoy what I do. No pressure. No panic. No considering the market. No thought of what I’m supposed to be doing. I’m going to give myself the holidays to remind myself to do what I love. And more than that…I’m going to give myself a break, too. There’s no more beating myself up mentally if I don’t spend every free second writing. Maybe I want to just sit and surf the web for a day, and you know what? I will. And I won’t punish myself for it.
So, my advice is to give yourself time to just be you. To enjoy. Celebrate. Relax. And take the pressure completely off.
See you next post!
