Hi YA Bookcasers!
Today is going to be a short but sweet post. I’m curious – what book are you reading now, and would you recommend it (why or why not)? Here are my current reads:
2nd last read: I finally read The Raven King by Maggie Stiefvater. Now, this isn’t due to not wanting to read the series quickly. It’s because I stupidly thought it was a trilogy; hence, when I saw book 4, it was some time later. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There is so much to love. The characters are so real, complex, interesting, and unique. They make this surreal, interesting book sing.
Last read: I just finished Simon vs the Homosapien Agenda by Becky Albertalli. I’d definitely recommend this book. While I don’t read masses of YA Contemp, I read enough to keep current. This has a strong voice, relevant themes, and is a quick read. The only down side for me is the occasional cliche. Other than that, I’d rate it well.
Current read: I’m a handful of chapters into The Lie Tree by Frances Hardinge. Now, admittedly, so far I’m not 100% invested, but in all fairness, it can take me a while to get into the vibe of a new read. I like the main character and the concept, but I find the prose a bit stuffy so far (but then this is reflective of the time period the book is set in, I think.) I’ll see how this one goes!
As for what I plan to read next? It’s either going to be The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (yes, I still haven’t read it!) or the Paper Magician series by Charlie N. Holmberg. Let’s see what mood I’m in after I finish The Lie Tree.
So, what are you reading?
I’m almost done with Dread Nation by Justina Ireland. I love it. There are many layers to this story. And a kick-ass female black protagonist.
